Social media and the effects on sales

When it comes to brands and social media, these days most brands tend to stay away from any ads or statements that could possibly light a fire under the internet’s fury. Yet, Nike chose to stray away from the norm by running an ad with controversial figure, Colin Kaepernick. This ad quickly drew backlash from many and led to a Nike boycott. People were burning their Nike products, yet despite all this Nike seems to be increasing in sales?

Such a result shows just how social media may seem powerful at first glance, which it

rightfully is, but this also shows just how social media can be blown out of proportion altogether.
