The Celebrity Bowl

It seems as though everyone was able to spot their favorite celebrity on this year's medley of Super Bowl commercials. From Micheal B. Jordan as Alexa, to Timothee Chalamet as Edward Scissorhands, all the way to Drake from State Farm. This year’s 2021 Super Bowl heavily relied on celebrity appearances and cameos; a trend major brands followed, and seems as though it was for the better.

Celebrity endorsed advertisements is an old, but gold tactic used in the industry to this day. It not only helps increase sales, but also increases awareness, and creates a positive association with the brand. When people see someone they look up to using a product or brand they are more willing to try it out for themselves, at the very least.

With the help of Micheal B. Jordan, Amazon released a new commercial displaying the features of their voice activated Alexa. This was a smart business move on both ends, for Jordan has an upcoming movie,Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse, which is to be released some time this year. The ad was called Alexa’s Body, and showcased the new and improved Alexa model, with a poster stamped on a moving bus for Jordan’s new movie and played on his physical attributes such as his body and voice mimicking Alexa’s controls and actions.

Timothee Chalamet was also another fan favorite and familiar face who appeared in a commercial for the new all electric Cadillac Lyriq. Chalamet’s role was to play Edward Scissorhands and displayed a series of obstacles he faced due to his scissor hands. The last scene was really what brought the ad together since the biggest feature in this car is to be able to drive hands free. Very well played and witty in my opinion.

We also saw a very popular face from the rap industry in a State Farm commercial, Drake. Although this commercial included an all-star cast, the main attraction was Drake, playing the role of Jake from State Farm’s stand in. Many people found the advertisement to be humorous since the two looked so similar and since Jake from State Farm is such a well known concept.
