3 Tips Reminding You to Think Creatively

I know what you're probably thinking “ughh, another blog post about being creative?? Are you sure there isn't something else you'd share about? While I would love to write about six steps for making the perfect guacamole, I think it's important to be reminded how to improve creativity so we can recover from creative block, solve problems and unleash our most innovative ideas- especially because more and more employers are looking for candidates with this skill.

There're many ways to stay creative. However these are tips that I think are worthy enough to be embroidered on a pillow. On a serious note, I've found that these are immensely helpful when I'm working on a project or starting on a new painting/drawing.

First, never stop learning because life never stops teaching. There're always new skills to learn and techniques that we can adopt. If you look at the most successful people in the world, they understand this. Warren Buffet spends most of his time, wait for it...reading. The best entrepreneurs in the world don't act like they know everything. They all understand the fact that they have to continuously learn to be successful.

Next, question everything. Why? Well, it's funny. People are sometimes afraid to ask questions because they fear they might seem “stupid.” And yet the smartest people on the planet are/were often the ones who ask the most questions. I know it's cliche but yes, I'm talking about Albert Einstein. We should question the opinions and theories of others that influence our own. More doors will open for you and you will also begin to see opportunities that others may have missed and would have never considered.

Last, keep an open mind. To have an open mind means to be willing to consider new and different ideas. This means you'll be flexible and adaptive to new experiences. Now more than ever we live in a world that’s constantly changing. In order to keep up, we must be open to new experiences and new ways of looking at things. Being open-minded also helps us with problem solving skills and staying current. It helps see multiple ways of approaching a problem and to find a more expansive way of solving it. If we give ourselves more options, better solutions will become available to us.

Overall, it might be said that the more open you are to new ideas, experiences, and activities the more creative you will be. So go forth and embrace different perspectives, question everything, and learn something new each day.
